Abstinence Essay

More and more teens are becoming sexually active each year and many end up pregnant. This is a problem that is rising throughout the United States. The solution to this is simple, abstinence. Abstinence is the best choice in eliminating this problem because you won't contract an STD, you have a future to look forward to, and you'll be obeying God's law.

Condoms may work when trying to protect yourself from STD's, but they are not always effective. When you use abstinence, you are guaranteed 100% protection from STDs, which can cause you to be on medication the rest of your life. STDs can ruin your future relationships and your future careers. If you are pregnant, you may pass the disease onto your child. Now, not only did you mess up your life but you also ruined theirs.

Have you ever heard the saying "a child changes everything"? Well, it's true. With a child, there are sacrifices every parent has to make that are best for the child. Many teens, who are pregnant, drop out of school to work to support their son or daughter. Without a high school education, it becomes harder to find jobs. Many teen parents, who do find jobs, work for minimum wage, which is hardly enough to support a family. Those teens who had hoped to become doctors, lawyers, or teachers had to forget those plans after they had their baby. Having a baby changes everything.

Another reason abstinence is the best choice is because sex before marriage is breaking one of God's rules. If you have grown up in a Christian household like me, you know that your virginity is a gift from God meant for us to give away after marriage. If you have premarital sex, there is a good chance the person you had sex with will walk away after they have gotten what they wanted. A spouse on the other hand, would not because you are supposed to be committed together for the rest of your lives. God wants us to be married before we have sex for this reason. "God's will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor- not in lustful passion." 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

Abstinence is the only way to fully protect ourselves from sexually transmitted diseases, unplanned pregnancy, and pain we would cause to our friends and family. We can get an education and become doctors, lawyers, or teachers, and get a descent pay if we practice abstinence. We can get married and have a family and have a bright future to look forward to. Abstinence, it works!
