ABSTINENCE

I think being abstinence is the best choice for teens. I have three reasons why I think teens should be abstinent. I believe that teens are not mature enough to handle a child when they are just kids themselves. My second reason is that it says in the Bible that sex before marriage is a sin. My final reason is that harmful diseases are out there for teens if they are not abstinent.

My first reason for being abstinent is that teens are not mature enough to handle a child, because teens will not be able to fund all the things that babies need. Also teens don't know how to take care of a child, because they are only kids themselves. I think that if teens wait until they are married to have kids they will have a better chance at giving them a better future. Teens need to have the opportunity to be involved with activities that enable them to have fun and not feel the pressure to have sex to be accepted by their peers. Also, if a girl gets pregnant as a teen she might choose to have a abortion which means a child will die because two people were not abstinent. If teens become parents before they are ready they are giving up the chance to achieve their educational dreams that will allow them to obtain a good job and provide for themselves and a family.

As a Christian, I believe what the Holy Bible says about sexual relationships before marriage is a sin. In 1 Corinthians 6:19 it reads "Don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit." I believe this means that we are not to bring shame to our bodies, but to use them to honor God. Being brought up in the church as a young child, I have always been taught to use the Holy Bible as a guide. I know that from several Sunday School discussions we have talked about how to make smart decisions being abstinent. I know God has a plan for my life and I need to be focused on my future and not be drawn to activities that I know can be harmful to me.

My final reason addresses the health issue. Teens are mislead about the effects of sexually transmitted diseases. They often are heard saying "It can't happen to me." Most teens believe they are protected if they use a form of contraception. Studies have shown that abstinence is the only way to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. Teens who have sexual relationships with several different partners are putting all their lives at risk, some sexually transmitted diseases can be treated with medication while others may be untreatable . As teens look toward the future and contemplate marriage they need to know that their partner for life is healthy and has not been sexually active. Local health departments encourage youth to cherish their health and provide programs to educate them in activities to refrain from having sex.

Youth need to know that having respect for themselves is the first step in remaining abstinent. I feel that having this respect will enable you to make sound decisions. Teens need to know that there are family members, school counselors, and church pastors that are there to listen to their concerns.
