Abstinence

Sex. In today's world that word is very common. When I grew up, I didn't know what it was until my parents thought I was mature enough to know about it. Now little kids know about it before they are even old enough to handle it. Teens are randomly hooking up with people. People used to say sex was something wonderful you shared with your husband. Now its just sex. I really think you should practice abstinence- not just because of the physical reasons, but also because of the emotional and spiritual reasons.

Everywhere you look in the media you see sex- TV and magazines especially. They show it as a fun thing to do but you never really see the consequences. You could easily become pregnant even if you are practicing safe sex. If you do become pregnant there are basically three things you could do. You could keep it, abort it, or you could give it up for adoption. Teenagers are not responsible or mature enough to make a decision like that. Whatever you do the decision will probably haunt you forever. Also you could get a STD, which would affect you for the rest of your life. Some STDs can have a long-lasting effect on your health.

Even if you don't get pregnant, or a STD, your emotional state will probably suffer. Sex just complicates things. You could easily really become stressed or depressed because that guy who told you he loved you hasn't called back. When people find out your reputation will probably be shattered. Guys will ask you out only because they think they're gonna get some. Then you will feel embarrassed every time you look at a guy.

Then there is God. In the bible it clearly states that you should wait till marriage to have sex. When you were little you made that commitment to God and yourself and you need to obey it. You may not think this is right, but look to your future. Don't want to tell your husband that you waited until marriage, so that you will only be with him. Also if you have younger siblings or cousins you want to set that example, because whether you know it or not they look up to you, and will try to copy you when they are older.

So that is why you should practice abstinence. You need to be able to look at yourself in 10 years and be proud of yourself. Remember, not just for the physical reasons but also the emotional and spiritual reasons you made to God and yourself. Remember, you decide your future nobody else can decide it for you.
